Practice training contracts
With effect from 9 October 2009, law graduates who intend to be called to the
Bar will have to serve a practice training contract under the Legal Profession
(Practice Training Period) Rules (in place of the pupillage system). Law
graduates are required to enter into and complete either a 6-month or 12-month
practice training contract with a Singapore law practice. Please visit the
Ministry of Law’s website or the Board of Legal Education’s website for further
details.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for bright, motivated, dynamic and committed individuals who are
team players. As our corporation can only be as good as its lawyers and staff,
we take training seriously and only offer training contracts to suitable
individuals with the intent of retaining every suitable trainee as an Associate
in our corporation once that trainee has been admitted to the Singapore Bar.
Our objectives and aspirations in relation to
training contracts
Our objective is to provide comprehensive and practical training to all
trainees. We offer training in a broad spectrum of all areas of legal work which
are undertaken by our corporation. During the course of the training period, we
hope to impart essential skills in the various areas of the law and practice to
the trainees. With numerous experienced law practitioners in our corporation,
you can expect to work in a dynamic and continuously developing legal
environment. As we are a medium-sized corporation, we believe that our
relationship with our trainees is likely to be more interactive and personal. In
addition, we have a friendly and pleasant working environment between our
lawyers and staff.

Corporate |
| 3. |

|
Supervising Solicitors
Each trainee will be supervised by a Supervising Solicitor. The Supervising
Solicitors in our corporation are senior lawyers who have a wealth of experience
and expertise.
Honorarium and Benefits
The trainees are given a competitive monthly honorarium, which is in line with
market rates. Upon confirmation of retention with us as an Associate, we will
also pay for the filing and stamp fees of the court documents relating to the
trainee's call to the Singapore Bar. Our current policy is to have Saturdays off
and "dress-down" Fridays. As we believe that all work and no play makes for dull
lawyers, we have an annual dinner & dance (or overseas firm trip) as well as
various social events during the course of the calendar year to enable lawyers
and staff to socialise and interact.
Number of trainees and Retention
We are presently looking to recruit up to 12 trainees in 2010. Every trainee is
recruited with a view towards retention. Upon retention, new lawyers can expect
to receive an attractive starting salary, in-line with market rates.
